Doing the splits in seven days - reality or myth?

Throughout my coaching practice (since 2009), I have heard the same question countless times: “How many days or weeks will I be able to do the splits if I start training with you?”

There are several important physiological and psychological factors that influence the speed of mastering the splits. It is precisely because of their individual combination that there is and cannot be a universal answer to this question.

Key factors influencing Stretching progress:

  1. Floor: anatomically, men are usually less flexible than women. Men's ligaments and tendons are naturally tougher, but there are exceptions to any rule.
  2. Age: Over the years, the elasticity of collagen fibers decreases, muscles become less pliable, so adult Stretching requires a careful approach.
  3. Initial flexibility: Some students naturally have softer ligaments and good joint mobility. Their starting point is closer to the goal.
  4. Pain perception: Stretching is inevitably associated with discomfort (tension, burning). The stronger the fear of pain, the stronger the unconscious muscle resistance.
  5. Psychological peace: Developing flexibility is much easier when you are calm. Stress, haste or anger tighten the body. It is extremely important to control your breathing evenly and maintain awareness while Stretching.

splits in a week - is it possible?

Promises to do the splits from scratch in a week are a marketing myth that often leads to serious injuries, torn ligaments and a long recovery. In developing flexibility, complete peace, lack of fuss and refusal to force results are important.

It is regular, conscious training and the right mental attitude that ultimately gives you the flexibility you strive for.
